1. Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Park in the United States. It goes through Virginia and North Carolina. The Parkway links Shenandoah National Park to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The parkway is 469 miles long and has beautiful views.
Parks is America’s longest linear park. It is 2300 square miles long. Visitors can enjoy views from high points that are 400-1500 feet above sea level or they could walk along trails with mountain laurel and rhododendron bushes on either side.
Pets: The Blue Ridge Parkway is a scenic place for people and pets alike. Dogs that are six feet or shorter can come on the parkway.
Camping: Visitors are welcome at campsites and can stay for $20 a night. They can also stop at restaurants where there will be food waiting for them after they explore nature!
Tour: When people visit the Blue Ridge Parkway, they can enjoy many of the views. They will be able to see a lot of different natural things. The parkway has trails, museums, and other things for people to do. It’s a great place to go on a walk and learn more about nature.
Entrance Fee: America’s most popular drive is the Blue Ridge Parkway. It has no entrance fees for travelers and you will remember it your whole life!
2. Cape Hatteras National Seashore
Cape Hatteras National Seashore is 70 miles from the coast. It starts at Bodie Island and goes to Ocracoke Island in North Carolina. It’s managed by the National Park Service and it’s protected by US law for nature conservation.
There are many different kinds of landscapes in this National Park. People can hike and find flowers, birds, and other animals. There are also beaches and marshes.
Pets: Cape Hatteras National Seashore is a great place to take your pet. Pets need to be on a leash that is at least 6 feet long. They are not allowed in buildings or swim beaches. There are many places for people to go to, so pets will want to explore too!
Camping: You can experience the beauty of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore by camping. Camping is not allowed on the beach, but there are campsites where you can enjoy a beautiful view and an ocean breeze.
Tour: Cape Hatteras National Seashore is a good place for outdoor activities. You can go hiking, fishing, and do water-related activities like surfing or swimming. You can also do high house climbs where you will have a good view of the area! For those who don’t want so much excitement on their vacation, there are quieter hikes at Cape Hatteras. They still give you beautiful views and a good workout. There are many seagulls at this park. If you have binoculars, you can watch them!
Entrance Fee: Cape Hatteras National Seashore is a beautiful place in the United States. There are no entry fees!
3. Cape Lookout National Seashore
The Cape Lookout National Seashore is part of the Southern Outer Banks or Crystal Coast. The seashore is 56 miles long, and you can see it on Ocracoke Inlet in the north and Beaufort Inlet in the south.
People can come to our unspoiled coastline. Kids can do things like fishing and hunting.
Pets: Pets are very important in the beach experience. But they need to be kept on a leash at all times so that no one will get hurt.
Camping: You may camp at Cape Lookout National Seashore for up to 14 consecutive days. Camping is allowed on any of the Islands in this area. There are no designated campsites, so you can choose where you would like to camp.
Tour: Cape Lookout National Seashore is a place to go horseback riding, kayaking, and canoeing. They also offer fishing opportunities and it’s good for looking at birds or finding shells on the beach.
Entrance Fee: Cape Lookout National Seashore is free. You can go to Harkers Island Visitor Center or Beaufort Visitor Information Center, but for other places, you need to take a boat.
4. Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site
Carl Sandburg’s home is a place where people can go and look at things from his life.
It is one of America’s most influential poets from 1914 to 1967 who preserved Connemara with all its personal belongings left untouched for your inspection.
Pets: On your next visit to the park, your pet can come too. But you need to keep the park safe for all of us. Follow these rules so that we can all enjoy it!
Camping: Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site is a place where people can go to enjoy the outdoors. There are many picnic sites, but if you want something different and more secluded, there are lots of good camping spots near our place.
Tour: You can explore the life of poet Carl Sandburg at a national historic site. It is located in Galesburg, Illinois, and has many things to do including taking a tour that you can take online or you can become a volunteer. BARK Rangers are volunteers who like to help. They find materials around the site and make art projects.
There is more to read about him than just reading. There are books in his own book shop that you can buy.
Entrance Fee: You can explore the grounds for free and get a peek into what life was like back in 1871. There are also trails and books at the Sandburg Home.
5. Fort Raleigh National Historic Site
This national historic site is the first English settlement in the present-day United States. It is also where Sir Walter Raleigh started his colony and it became North Carolina.
Once he got to the place, he started planting crops and had people take care of them. He also looked for gold but didn’t find any. So they went back home to Virginia after wintering over.
Pets: Pets are welcome in the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site! Pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. They also need to follow all other park rules.
Camping: You can’t camp at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site. But you can camp on Roanoke Island or Outer Banks. Set up a tent and have a good time near the forest.
Tour: Fort Raleigh National Historic Site has many things for visitors to see. There is the Main Stage at Waterside Theater, Thomas Hariot Trail, Freedom Trail, and First Light of Freedom Earthwork. I want to visit all these places!
Entrance Fee: At Fort Raleigh, you do not need to pay to enter the park. It is one of the few parks that does not charge an entrance fee for people to come in.
6. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Great Smoky Mountains National Park has the most wildflowers in North America. There are more than 2000 species of flowers and they bloom all year long because of the warm winters.
The park has a lot of hiking trails that can be short or long. Some are for families with young kids, and some are for experienced backpackers who want to go on weeklong trips. Some trails take you up high in the mountains and there are some rare plants too.
Pets: The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a great place to bring your dog. You can let your dog go in campgrounds, picnic areas, and in the car as long as you keep it on a leash.
Camping: Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a good place for camping in the wilderness. There are many different campsites. They are not parking lots or pull-outs, but they have many options to enjoy all types of climates.
Tour: There are many different things to do in the Smoky Mountains National Park. You could drive around and see the beautiful scenery, go hiking or biking and have a great time. There are also designated spots for picnics where you can enjoy your food with the views from the mountainside. This is an unforgettable experience and I recommend it!
Entrance Fee: The entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park is free.
7. Guilford Courthouse National Military Park
Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is a place where you can see the Revolutionary War. It’s important for people who want to know about it. On March 15, 1781, British troops were defeated by American soldiers. The next day they said that we are free. That is why the U.S. is strong and has a good flag with stars and stripes on it.
A park was made to remember a battle that happened in 1821. One thousand British soldiers fought against twelve hundred American soldiers. General Nathanael Greene had been ordered into battle as part of Washington’s chain strategy, and the Americans won this time.
Pets: The Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is not pet-friendly, but they do allow service animals.
Camping: Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is a park that only has stuff outside. It also does not have hotels for people to stay in.
Tour: Guilford Courthouse National Military Park has many attractions. You can explore the battlefield with your cell phone. There are many ways to explore the park, like on foot, by bike, or using a self-guided cell phone tour.
Entrance Fee: You can enter National Military Park for free. There is a lot of parking.
8. Moores Creek National Battlefield
The battlefield at Moores Creek National Battlefield is a must-see for all history buffs. It has the 1776 victory of about one thousand patriots over about eight hundred loyalists. This happened near Wilmington, North Carolina so you can also visit places like Fort Christina and Wrightsville Beach!
It has a battle that happened in 1777. It was with 1,000 patriots and 800 Loyalists. Francis Marion led the patriots. Colonel James Moore led the Loyalists. The battle was near Wilmington, North Carolina, which is just outside of where we are now (near Wilmington). We have kept it to tell its story
Pets: Moores Creek National Battlefield is a popular place for people with pets. They are not allowed in the buildings, but they can roam around outside on a leash while their owners enjoy some local history and culture!
Camping: Camping is a fun activity. There are many campsites near the National Park. But there is nothing like this for camping close to our city.
Tour: Moores Creek National Battlefield is a place where you can explore the history and learn about what happened in North Carolina. This includes programs for all ages, such as scouting and candlelight tours.
Entrance Fee: You can go explore the site of Moores Creek National Battlefield for free. It’s a place that people who like history will love.
9. Wright Brothers National Memorial
The Wright Brothers National Memorial is a place. It shows that the Wright brothers were the first to fly in heavier-than-air machines.
The Wright brothers built a memorial in Kill Devil Hills, near Kitty Hawk. They came from Dayton and went to Kitty Hawk because they found out about the steady winds there from the U.S Weather Bureau. Their first historic flight was in 1903 at that site which is remote and away from major population centers during early 20th century America.
Pets: Pets are allowed at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. They can play and explore the whole park. But they can’t go into buildings because it is not safe for them.
Camping: Wright Brothers National Memorial is a monument for two very important people. They are pioneers in aviation history. There is no public camping or other lodgings near the park, so if you want to visit, stay close by and enjoy the park’s many amenities!
Tour: The Wright Brothers National Memorial has many places to go. You can see the First Flight Boulder and the Flight Line there. There is also a monument for Wilbur and Orville’s invention of heavier-than-air flight, sculptures made by their brother Lorin, and Ranger programs about what happened at this important event in aviation history.
Entrance Fee: The Wright Brothers National Memorial is a great place to see for people who like history. The admission fee is only $10 and children ages 5-14 pay nothing!
