For the hiker, there are many dangers that arise such as getting sick and not being able to go on, bad weather like hurricanes or floods, or nature with its own problems like animals and getting lost.

    The Appalachian National Scenic Trail is a long trail that goes across the eastern United States and reaches 2000 feet in elevation. It goes through northwest Connecticut, and it is over 2000 miles long.

    The land is wide and it has forests. There are also hills and valleys. This land ends at the waterfalls near the gorges which were built by some of America’s first settlers. They lived on the same path centuries ago.

    People were looking for freedom or new land. They went to places that were unknown. At the same time, people wanted to start a new life without any government interference.
