    These are some of the largest national parks in India. Each park has its own unique charm and beauty. Some of the parks are very large but others are small.

    Hemis National Park

    The largest national park in India is Hemis National Park, which covers nearly 1,700 square kilometers of land near the border of Pakistan and China.

    It’s also known as the “Land of Snow Leopard.” It’s home to many animals including the Himalayan griffon vulture, Tibetan snow sun finch, Tibetan wolf, and snow foxes.

    Desert National Park

    In second place is the Desert national park, 1,220 square kilometers of protected area in the State of Rajasthan.

    Located in a unique habitat in North-Western India, the Thar desert. The climate here is very hot and dry, the land sandy, rocky, and partially covered in sand dunes.

    Home to several Endemic Species of Plants and Animals, Including the Sindh owl-headed Snake, this desert is on Tentative List to Become a UNESCO World Heritage site.

    The endangered Indian bustard bird inhabit the area along with the Desert Fox, Desert Cat, and Monitor Lizard. 60 Mammal species, 8 amphibian species, and 51 reptile species can be found here.

    The third-largest national park is the Gangotri national park. Located within Uttarakhand, this 922 square miles park is covered with coniferous forests and glacier-capped mountains.

    Typical plants here include fir, spruce, and oak trees. At higher elevations, alpine shrubs begin to take over the landscape.

    Recorded species include 150 birds and15mammals, such as the snow leopard, black bear, musk deer, and Himalayan snow cock.

    Khangchendzonga National Park

    Khangchendzhongga high attitude national park is the home to the third highest peak in the World.

    Located in Sikkim, it is home to mountain Kangchenjunga and mammals such as Snow Leopard, Himalayan Tahr, Himalayan Black Bear, and Red Panda.

    The park was created in 1973, covering 1,330 square kilometers of land and water. It is located in the southeast corner of Bangladesh, which means that it borders Myanmar.

    Jim Corbett national park is located in Uttarakhand state in northern India. It covers 1,318 square kilometers. It is famous for tigers.

    The park was established as part of the project tiger program. It contains grasslands, mango, sal, haldu, and peep talk trees.

    Papikonda national park is located around the river Godavari and is home to a number of endangered species of faunae also recognized as an important bird and biodiversity area in south India.
